Position Summary

MAG is searching for a qualified JTAC instructor who provides expert level instruction to students who direct the action of combat aircraft engaged in close air support and other offensive air operations from a forward position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

Support eight 8 SOTACC classes each year. The first 4 weeks of the course are completed at Hurlburt Field Florida, and the 5th week is completed at the Avon Park Bombing Range, located IVO Sebring Florida.

Primary responsibilities include instruction and training of USSOCOM JTAC trainees in all aspects of JTAC qualification training. Individual will assist with the conduct of administrative functions utilizing applicable JFS ESC MOA and USSOCOM 350-5 procedures and policies; assist active-duty SOTACC instructor personnel with JTAC training and scheduling requirements; serve as a JTAC-I/JTAC-E at locations consistent with SOTAC leadership’s direction.

  • Will perform JTAC/JTAC-I/JTAC-Evaluator control duties.
  • Must successfully pass a SPOT JTAC and JTAC-I evaluation within two months of hire.
  • Will maintain currency and proficiency in JTAC, JTAC Instructor, and JTAC Evaluator qualifications; in accordance with JTAC MOU, USSOCOM M350-5
  • Will provide instruction to JTAC trainees, JTACs, JTAC Instructors and JTAC Evaluators in accordance with JFS ESC, USSOCOM guidance.
  • Will develop, maintain, and update course materials; giving and grading exams; coordinating classroom space and logistical requirements; classroom and field instruction; and documenting every aspect of student performance.
  • Will perform specified notional CAS, Rotary Wing, Artillery (ARTY), Naval Surface Fires Support (NSFS) and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Electronic Warfare (EW) requirements and duties with simulators in lieu of CCAS or military aircraft duties.
  • Will assist with coordination and instructional duties for range operations.
  • Will provided/develop and utilize JTAC simulator scenarios and simulator operations as needed.
  • When requested, shall attend Fire Support and JTAC conferences, symposiums, meetings and working groups to ensure program continuity.
  • Will provide CAS/CCAS malfunction, accident, incident response and reporting.
  • Will attend annual professional development training as directed by the SOTACC Course Director.
  • Assist with maintaining SOTACC course curriculum, academic folders, JTAC online folder management, after action reports and program plans as requested by SOTACC Director.
  • Navigate day or night, to and from the training area, complying with local range procedures.
  • Provide initial, recurring, requalification and spot objectivity evaluations as required.
  • Shall participate in all virtual and DMO training and exercises as required.
  • Possess advance knowledge of Joint, and Special Operations Forces operations, JTAC employment scenarios, JTAC tactics, techniques, and procedures.

Minimum Requirements 

 

Required Skills: (skills a candidate MUST have to be considered for a position)

 

  • Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) certification – Current and Qualified IAW current JFS ESC and USSOCOM Directives.
  • JTAC-Instructor, current and qualified.
  • JTAC-Evaluator current and qualified.
  • AJACTS records management experience (TACTICS experience is acceptable).
  • Experience with basic email and office administration software i.e. Microsoft Office set-up and maintenance. (This is not an exhaustive list as there may be other software required).
  • JTAC instruction and evaluation expertise.
  • JTAC equipment management.
  • JTAC simulator operations knowledge.
  • Range scheduling and compulsory coordination requirements to fulfill mission operations and support.
  • Must maintain JTAC, JTAC-I and JTAC-E qualifications:
    1. Conduct initial, recurring, requalification, spot, no notice and upgrade evaluations
    2. When directed, attend conferences, symposiums, working groups and meetings
    3. Develop and implement CAS simulator scenarios
    4. Provide instruction, proficiency training, graded controls and evaluations using a simulator, CCAS, specified DoD aircraft and other required/directed capabilities applicable to current USSOCOM requirements
    5. Participate in live, virtual and constructive training events - as required
    6. Operate a wide range of specialized/SOF peculiar equipment, vehicles and communications equipment
    7. Navigate day or night to and from the training area; complying with all local area and installation procedures   

Preferred Skills: (skills that are not necessary but will make a candidate more qualified for the position)

  • Previously qualified JTAC-E.
  • Previously served as a JTAC program manager.
  • Previously held a TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance.
  • Highly desirable that applicant have a minimum of two years of Active, Guard or Reserve component SOF JTAC experience (direct assignment or augmentee).

Required Education / Certification / Experience: (education a candidate MUST have to be considered for a position)

  • High School Diploma 
  • Contractor must have possessed JTAC-Evaluator rating (pending any change with future, governing directives; i.e. policy changes that allow civilian contractor JTACs to be upgraded post separation from active-duty).
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must have working knowledge of the organizational interface of military, local, state and federal agencies as applicable to required JTAC operations.
  • Must be familiar with military command and control structures and protocols.
  • Must possess a valid civilian driver’s license and be able to hold a valid military driver’s license for military vehicles utilized by the customer.
  • Have the physical capabilities to perform JTAC duties and possess the ability to lift up to a 60-pound box.
  • Retain land navigation/map and compass/digitally aided skills to read and locate points of interest and targets etc., using latitude and longitude, Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) and Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate formats.
  • The contractor designated employee must pass an initial drug screening and vendor shall submit drug testing results as required by the Government. The Government will accomplish random drug testing after award at the Government’s expense.  

Preferred Education / Certification / Experience: (education areas are enhancing and will only make a candidate more qualified and desirable for the position)

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Security Clearance: Active US Secret or higher  

Evaluation of Candidates:

This position will require that the applicant receive a screening interview, which will be coordinated through the directorate and senior program manager.
