Position Summary

The Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) will provide systems engineering, integration, and life cycle sustainment support for the procurement, modifications, and sustainment of a fleet of UAS consisting of Air Vehicles (AVs), Ground Control Stations (GCSs) and Ground Support Equipment (GSE).  The UAS Technical SME will directly support Government personnel,  providing technical oversight of UAS development, payload integration, testing, fielding, operation, and sustainment of Government-owned UASs.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Research, assess, and provide recommendations related to technical design and issues of the UAS such as: (1) UAS performance, weight and balance, and survivability; (2) UAS operation, sustainment, and logistics; (3) UAS system/subsystem architecture and configuration management; (4) sensor/payload integration and interoperability; (5) line of sight (LOS) and beyond line of sight (BLOS) datalinks, navigation, communications, and avionics; and (6) user/operator control systems and interfaces.
  • Support the Program Manager by coordinating synchronization of stakeholder requirements, efforts, and schedules
  • Lead UAS test planning, execution, and post-test assessment
  • Lead the collection, tracking, dissemination and issue-resolution for all technical data and airworthiness documentation
  • Coordinate and track modifications, repairs, and upgrades; manage the associated logistics
  • Work with Government, Contractor, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) stakeholders to ensure all systems meet technical and functional key metrics
  • Lead research and analysis and provides recommendations on technologies that enhance the implementation and sustainment of UAS.
  • Identify and develop solutions for operations in austere operating environments.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

 

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Solid understanding and application of UAS system/subsystem architecture and interfaces
  • Significant experience with UAS electrical, mechanical, and/or software system design, integration, and test
  • Ability to work effectively with a mix of Government, Contractor, and Vendor personnel to ensure all systems meet programmatic, functional and operational milestones
  • Ability to develop high quality technical documentation 
  • Experience validating the traceability and testability of existing requirements
  • Experience conducting trade studies and analysis for product selection
  • Experience developing technical information for internal and external design reviews
  • Strong written, communication, and oral presentation skills
  • Proven ability to lead test teams to facilitate systems integration, verification, and test
  • Self-starter with a desire to solve problems
  • Team player with a desire to learn
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team that responds to dynamic and evolving technical and operational requirements, pivoting with revised solutions in response to evolving requirements

 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace) or relevant technical discipline, with 16 years of relevant experience in technical support for unmanned/manned technologies
  • Alternatively, Associates degree or military/industry training in a relevant technical discipline with 20 years of relevant experience in unmanned/manned technical systems
  • 10 plus years of engineering or technical experience with Group 3 UAS 

 

Desired Requirements 

  • Additional Group 2 or Air Launched Effects (ALE) experience
  • Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace)
  • Project analyst or project management experience managing cost, schedule, and quality of UAS 

Additional Requirements:

  • Active DoD, Secret security clearance
  • US Citizens only

Salary at MAG Aerospace is determined by various factors including but not limited to location, the particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $105000 to $195000 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of MAG's total compensation package for employees.
